I was tempted to call this feature ” Daycation ” as i heard it’s the new word for a day out. Apparently more of us are taking off and returning the same day, with much to explore and money tighter it seems to be an alternative to a short break. But either way the time has come to dust off the picnic hampers and maps. Unless of course you are a sat nav and on site cafe family. Personally if there was not a route squabble on the way it would not feel like a day out, and i have a lovely picnic hamper.
I will be adding to these throughout the season and welcome suggestions.

Southend Pier Museum.
Re open after a refurbishment and looking forward to seeing new and old friends.

BeWILDerwood. Nr Wroxham. Norfolk.
An imaginative adventure park with magical treehouses and a hint of intriguing characters.
Kids can run wild here and swing and slide in this wonderful wood.
You can picnic , but the food is good too.

Tropical Wings. South Woodham Ferrers, Essex.
This has one of the best butterfly houses  in the country,and although it is a small zoo it has plenty to offer.

Coalhouse Fort

Open last Sunday each month and bank holidays March – November

The Coalhouse Fort Project was formed in 1983 to maintain and promote the fort.

It was built between 1861 – 1874 and remained in military service until 1962.

It has two museums, military vehicles, artillery and much more.
